The AVM journey as told by Thomas Möller, Hardware Development (High-frequency Development)

Thomas, Hardware Developer (High-frequency Development)

Even as a newbie, I was taken seriously.

I was lucky enough to be able to gradually find my place at AVM. It all started in 2016 with a speculative application for an internship as part of my bachelor's degree. After that, I was able to get a student job here. People were always ready to listen – not just when I had questions, but when I had a different opinion, too. This feeling of working together as equals is something I still enjoy to this day. I've been a permanent employee since 2020.

Wi-Fi at its best

I'm part of the Standards & Infrastructure team within High-Frequency Technology, but I also support the HF Design team. Our job is to ensure every FRITZ!Box device complies with all applicable wireless standard regulations. We take a lot of measurements in-house specifically for this purpose. When thresholds are exceeded, we analyze the fault and start identifying the cause. Currently, I'm developing hardware for the new FRITZ!Box, particularly the Wi-Fi frontend. As a tinkerer and researcher, this brings me a lot of joy – because I just love working on the base unit.

Varied work

On the one hand, I'm wielding a soldering iron and optimizing circuits, and on the other, I'm programming software and evaluating data – this mix makes my job extremely varied and interesting. I'm allowed to experiment a lot, as well as test and implement improvements. I really like this way of working. In our team, a lot of things are more spontaneous and there's a relaxed atmosphere. I know I'm free to wear the daftest of Christmas sweaters without anyone batting an eyelid.
